joeriig 9
Week 1 - "The Republic Invasion" Province U19. A countryside of rolling hills and tiny streams. Here, deep in the Grassy midlands our glorious soldiers cross the border to face the treacherous Crown Colonies! Organization and experience are key to ensuring victory, and our great-marshal Tax Collector knows this. Our "Grande Armee", although still assembling, consists of a well trained core of infantry regiments! The officers of these regiments are still young however. They will have to learn fast in the engagements that are soon to come and bring glory to the Bastion! There is no room for incompetence in the republican ranks! Vive le Bastion!! Vive la république!!! - Bastion Newspaper From this day forth, we are at war with the Grand Republic; A previously unknown faction on the western side of this very island! Until recently, we didn't know anything about their settlements or its people. They appear to be of European descent but claim this island to be their home. Seemingly, they were quite aware of our presence and have been preparing for an all out invasion of our lands. This week our patrols reported a large Republic army crossing our borders and laying waste to the local countryside. Our 2nd Crown army that is currently stationed in the area will have to face these blue bastards! We are confident of our abilities and we will repel the invader! The New Cambridge Mayor and field commander Shephard himself will lead the defense! For Mayor and Country! To victory!!! - New Cambridge house of Mayors
Scandypandy 78
Week 2 Grande République Military Assembly, Location Unknown "Soldat Supérieur, the initial invasion has been a great success. The scrambled defences of the Colonial Military was scattered with ease. I expect we'll reach their capital within days." The room was abuzz with excited chatter and boastful commanders, all wishing to share their deeds of valour on the battlefield in the hopes of furthering their career. One Officer in particular-a Captain Morgan of the First Wave Guard-was commended by many for his ferocious last stand during the Battle of U21, in which he and his men fought to their last against a massive Crown Offensive. However, Soldat Supérieur Pierre Léonard looked dissatisfied. The recent victories had brought his men glory and been a boon to his campaign, however the military genius of his armies was beginning to have diminishing returns. The enemy officers were noting the tactics of his own commanders, and already it seemed that the Colonial Military was undergoing a bout of tactical innovation. As the Republican commanders and veterans cheered to continued victories, The Tax Collector turned to his map and pondered on what to do next. The Grande République has made advances into Crown Colony territories, advancing along the southwestern border provinces of U19 and U20. While they are battered by the defeat, the CC armies are holding fast and have also launched an expedition into Republican territory to the far North; utilising their extra army, they are managing to both defend against and attack the Grande République. Republican forces are also pushing south into RU territory, taking R5 for themselves and advancing on the garrisoned R4. The RU Army will have their first taste of Battle soon. Can the Grande République keep up the fighting on two fronts? Will the Crown Colonies manage to reform their tactics to beat back the invaders? Will the Russian Union defend their rightful clay? Keep an eye on the NRP Campaign to find out! (dev note: The Admins have been examining some of the faction bonuses and while it is generally agreed that each faction-should it utilise their abilities correctly-all have their strengths and weaknesses, we may tweak or re-balance certain abilities later in the Campaign if one Faction continually dominates in a way that seems unchangeable. Glad you're enjoying it so far!)
Scandypandy 78
Week 3 Part 1 It's been a very busy and very exciting week for the NRP Campaign, and thus the Weekly Update is split into 3 sections detailing the 3 main events of this week; The CC Army Reform, the RU Rebellion and the Battle of U20 The New Colonial Army Spoiler Several defeats at the hands of the Grande République have left the Colonial Administration in disarray. In a last-ditch attempt to restore spirit to the weary Mayors, an emergency assembly was called. After much bickering and debate, one Mayor stood forward and demanded the floor. “It has come to my attention that the flaw in our great armies lies not in the hearts of our soldiers, the powder in our guns nor the hooves of our horses. It does not lie in the speed at which we charge, nor the strength with which we fight. It lies not in the drums we beat, it lies not in the swords we swing, it lies not in the songs we sing as we march into battle. The flaw, it would seem, lies in the men who have been given the apparent burden of leadership. The flaw lies in the belief that to lead an army is a job or a duty, rather than an honour and a privilege. It lies in the loose and unorganised tactics which are tossed to the winds of chaos by men seeking glory over victory. Today, I propose change. I propose change to the very core of our army, change to the very way our armies operate. It would seem many of you have not the courage to fight this war, it would seem many of you have not the courage to see it through. I ask not that you find such courage in this room today-only the courage to allow me do so.” The Mayor speaking was none-other than Presidente, a battered war veteran with an extremely large following in many military circles. While unpopular within the more bureaucratic areas of the Crown Colonies, he was often relied upon for sound military advice. Next to him stood Pew, another veteran soldier who laid a set of papers and notes upon the table. He had drawn up massive lists of every able bodied soldier in the Crown Colonies with any experience in military leadership and organisation, as well as those with careers in logistical fields. Their skills and abilities had been cross referenced and studied to create a comprehensive list of people most qualified to lead the armies. The pair looked to the chamber before them, before Presidente spoke bluntly. “We have the ability to reform the army from the ground up. We will examine every element of our military and innovate it to match the enemy before us. We will leave no mechanism of our might without scrutiny, we will ensure that every single Royal Soldier that goes to war does so as part of the greatest military our nation has ever seen.” After some initial grumbling from some of the previous Officers and Mayors, the reforms were accepted. The Crown Colonies would have their army overhauled, hoping to lessen the domination the Grande Réublique were having during their invasion. As the Battle of U20 loomed, now moreso than ever was innovation on the field required. Campaign Affects: -Most of the Crown Colony officers were changed in favour of more experienced leaders -The GR battle bonuses may be permanently reduced when fighting against CC Part 2 The Disaster at R4 Spoiler The Grande République’s advance into Russia has cornered the army of the Rossiskiy Soyuz in R4, where the two nations met in Battle for the first time. The allegiance of the Rossiskiy Soyuz had previously rested in the hands of whoever was least likely to challenge her isolation and borders, however after botched agreements with the Grande République it became clear that war was upon them. Lidor Nirok has rallied the forces of the Union and intends to route the Republican soldiers from his lands. His army was composed of all able bodied men available; from peasants and labourers to well-trained regiments and veterans. Nirok’s plan was a simple but effective one; he sought not toal conquest or destruction of the Grande République, but rather the defence and preservation of the Rossiskiy Soyuz borders. He intended to make the campaign in his lands a war of attrition, spreading the Tax Collector’s armies thin and surviving until the time to strike presented itself. The Russian Union Army was not lacking in soldiers or in spirit; their downfall lay in communication. At some point during battle orders between lines became confused, and as the brutally efficient Republican war machine began to advance they struggled to remain cohesive under such massive pressure. Some units were scattered or separated, cut off from their reinforcements. The heavy French Cavalry made short work of the, butchering them where they stood. Desperation in their eyes, the bulk of the remaining army turned to the Republican lines and charged, shouts of fury and bloodlust exploding from their lungs as they charged the French position en masse. The Republican troops opened fire, and countless soldiers were cut down. All the same, they charged. The charge became flanked and hit with an attack from the side, but still they charged. By the time the last Russian soldier fell, the ground was awash with bodies of those who refused to yield. Nearby, the last survivors of the Rossiskiy Union garrison were defending their position by a river, with a forward regiment guarding the main crossing. Once again, communication failed and the guard regiment moved off-allowing the Grande République to execute a brutal pincer charge. The attack was devastating, with the Union army utterly destroyed. Lidor Nirok managed to escape death or capture, leaving the field at the last moment with a group of Loyalists. The defeat shook the Union to its core. Negotiation, Dissent and Revolution Spoiler The shock of the Disaster at R4 sent ripples across the Russian territories. Lidor Nirok, seeing the desperate military situation and hearing of the multiple Republican victories against the Crown Colonies to the east, requested to meet with The Tax Collector to negotiate a truce. The agreement reached was that what little territory the Grande République had conquered would remain under their control, in return for a cease in hostilities. The loose dictatorship of the Rossiskiy Soyuz would embrace the ideas of the Grande République, and use its armies to support Republican campaigns. While not one known for compromise, Niroc felt that the only other fate awaiting the people of the Rossiskiy Soyuz was certain death at the hands of a seemingly unstoppable war machine. However, there were some who resented his decision. Across Union territories, plotters began to claim that Lidor Niroc had betrayed the Union and her people with this deal. Prominent leaders of the Rebellion were war veterans Batunga, Kouhai and Gio-all who brought with them many veteran soldiers. They began to gather support and before long soldiers were flocking to the cause of the rebels. Their exact cause and goals not clearly known, it became clear that an uprising was at hand. The Grande République publicly stated that it was to support Lidor Nirok’s rule over the newly reformed Rossiskiy Soyuz, What awaits the Rossiskiy Soyuz depends on whether or not the rebels can be satiated… Affects on Campaign: -The Rebellion will manifest in some way on the Campaign map, likely as an enemy army to RU. To what extent it is crushed will have an affect on the RU Faction. -The RU are until further notice allied with the Grande République against the Crown Colonies Part 3 The Second Battle of U20 Prologue Spoiler Patrol along the U20 River, prior to Grande République Arrival “I have full confidence in the men. The New Colonial Army is a brutally efficient fighting machine.” “Yes; the Republican dogs won’t know what hit them. We’ll send them packing with their tail between their legs.” “The men are tired I’m sure, but there’s strength in them. A steel will the likes of which I don’t think I’ve ever seen.” “I’ve seen it too-tomorrow is sure to be a day of reckoning for the Republican army.” The two Colonial Officers paused for a moment, pondering what lay ahead. As the drills ceased and the nightly patrols went out, there was stillness in the air. The eve of battle brought an eerie calm over the army, perhaps with the knowledge that for many this may be the final time they witness the sun set over their home. Officers Tent, Grande Républican Forward Planning Camp The Tax Collector watched his Officers have an early celebration, in preparation for what they assumed would be an easy victory. Earlier domination of the Colonial Armies has allowed confidence to nestle firmly among the Republican ranks-something which has proven both a boon and a burden in the past. As the sun sets, the soldiers of the Grande Réublique sleep soundly, knowing that the Capital of their enemy is practically within sight. The Battle Spoiler The two armies met on the border of U20, battling over a lightly forested area. The Colonial forces hoped to halt them at the border in order to prevent the Republicans from digging in, however they were initially pushed back. With confidence wavering, the newly appointed Officers rallied the men and went on the offensive-demonstrating the newfound capabilities of the New Colonial Army. Line after line of Republican forces fell to the attacking Crown forces, with devastating volleys and ferocious bayonet charges driving them further and further back. For a time the army of the Grande République was scattered and at the mercy of the Crown Colonies as they began to butcher those who had invaded their lands. The army was better co-ordinated, far more cohesive and the new Officers were extremely skilled in their tactics. The frontlines by the end of the day had reached the river through U20, with the Republican forces beginning once more to gain the upper hand. The French began to advance, and the Crown forces moved to lock down the crossing points to prevent their advance. Some of the rank and file soldiers-likely worn down by exhaustion and low morale-were starting to struggle to keep up with the orders of the New Colonial Army Officers. The Grande République had brought with them extremely skilled artillerymen, and before long the Crown forces were being bombarded with devastating artillery fire. Droves of soldiers were decimated by blast after blast, until eventually they managed to dig in. The Republican troops advanced toward the Easternmost crossing, hoping to seize the Crown Artillery and corner the troops. The Crown forces prepared to defend against a large scale attack. Several of the officers ordered troops to pull back temporarily-this baited the Republican lines to charge across the bridge in an attempt to establish a foothold on the enemy bank. Suddenly, the order for a charge was given and the Crown forces surged forward in order to slaughter the Republicans on the riverbank. Countless French troops fell to the initial attack, however confusion amongst the lower ranking soldiers in the various lines meant that the second wave of the attack was much weaker. The Republican troops rallied and pushed forward, and began to gain ground toward the Crown artillery. After several skirmishes down the last few men, the Grande République gained control of the area. With what remains of the Crown Colony’s army scattered to the wilderness or dead, the Colonial Administration began preparations to evacuate the Capital if needs be. Another army was nearby-the last bastion between the Capital and the approaching army-with the third Colonial Army still in the far North, campaigning into Republican territory. After a ferocious battle, the Grande République are victorious once more. Campaign Affects: -GR are in full control of U20 -CC army of U20 destroyed, will re-spawn in the Capital in 3 turns (if Capital is moved it spawns there) Full List of Campaign Changes: -Rebellion in RU will manifest on the map, how this will be handled will be announced soon -RU are considered allied with the Grande République until further notice -GR retain control of U20, Crown Colonial Army 3 Destroyed WEEK 3 OFFICERS KILLED: -Wilhelm -Duke of Darling (Darling) -Darth Sidous (El Presidente) Upcoming Battles will commence on U16 and F6; The Grande République will face the two remaining CC armies in battle. Niroc has moved the RS army further south.
Scandypandy 78
Spoiler The Disaster at R4 had a devastating affect on the military situation of the Rossiskiy Soyuz, however the shock of total defeat sent a ripple right to the core of their command. The surrender by Niroc to the Grande République-agreed to in the hopes of sparing the lives of his countrymen from unstoppable Republican onslaught-was seen in an extremely poor light by many of the influential figures within the Union. One group of individuals had formed in the run-up to the conflict, who were charged with the organisation of the somewhat chaotic land ownership within the Union. Hoping to further centralise and structure the land and labour of Union itself, they soon came to the realisation that a massive amount of power lay in the labourers and workers across the farms and workshops-far moreso than the highly autocratic rulers of the Union itself. When the surrender was announced, the group-known as the Land League of the Union (LLU)-were beset with mass protests against the restructuring of the previously free-form nature of the Rossiyskiy Soyuz into the highly centralised and strictly structured Republican way of the Grande République. As they approached the owners of the largest estates and farms, they were met with confusion as no real hierarchy existed; there were no landowners extracting tax from their tenants, nor farmers or labourers living under the boot of a lord or ruler. Instead, each man and woman were simply existing; living in whatever way they strove to live. Some banded together to form communities based on shared labour, whilst others etched out a living alone. To a Land League of any other nation it was famine-prone chaos, but to the people of the Rossiyskiy Soyuz it was simple liberty; the right to live by whatever means you are able, with no man starting with more or less than another. Soon the protests had grew in number, and the LLU's building was soon surrounded by a furious mob who were demanding guarantees that their way of life would not be disturbed by the surrender to the Grande République. One person in particular stood out from amongst the crowd-Tanya Pavenlova (Kouhai). From a poor farming background, she rallied the protesters behind her and lead them into countless settlements to gather support for dissent against what she called The Great Mistake. She and her followers promised the continued freedom, liberty and sovereignty of the Russian people provided they take up arms against those unwilling to do so. The LLU-being the most influential political entity outside of Lidor Niroc himself-saw that the people were not to be deterred and declared support for the Rebellio, fundoing its campaign. Soon every street was littered with propaganda, declaring that the Rossiyskiy Soyuz was too weak to withstand foreign threats and that only the workers and labourers themselves-carrying the very spirit of the people-could hope to defend their homes. Every craftsman, farmer, labourer, builder, every man and woman who wishes to be free has been called to fight under Tanya Pavenlova and her rebellion. Lidor Niroc has been tasked with quelling this rebellion, recieving the full support of the Grande République to destroy this insurrection which threatens to dismantle the Rossiskiy Soyuz and open up a new threat to the west. All across the southern lands, the workers can be heard cursing the Great Mistake and shouting in adoration for their freedom. Tanya Pavenlova uttered the words which would come to be the motto of the rebellion during a speech on the southern coast; "There is no military power in this world which can be trusted, other than the weapon you hold in your own hands. The firing of our weapons will liberate our people, In Blee We Trust!" Campaign Affects The Russian Revolution will manifest as an army on the map, and will threaten to take over the RU if not defeated. The army will be considered hostile to RU armies, GR armies but not CC armies. The exact date and details of when it will be battled will come soon. The leader of the rebellion is "Tanya Pavenlova", who's username on NRP is Kouhai. Week 4 Battles of F6 and U16. Spoiler The Grande République has triumphed once more. Her enemies lie scattered to the wind, so battered and broken that a very change in weather may reduce them to a rusted heap of submission. The 1st Colonial Army-which was yet to see Battle during the invasion-took the duty upon itself to halt the French advance an turn the tide of the war. Alas, their effort ended in tragedy. However, the Grande République felt for the first time how sharp the bite of a cornered rat can be. Every inch gained by the Republican soldiers saw scores dead, as ferociously patriotic Crown Forces threw themselves with the fury of a thousand armies upon their enemy; bayonets clashed as men heaved together in brutal mauls, the horizon was lit as though by hellfire as volley after volley slammed into the Republican forces. Artillery fire turned the land itself inside out with barrage after barrage-every single resource available was poured into stopping the Republican onslaught. Alas, all the 1st Colonial Army had to give fell short of the force required to halt am army so grand as that under the command of the Tax Collector. Despite the best efforts of the Crown Forces, the armies of the Grande République time and time again found victory. By the end of the day, none could say that the battle had been anything but a total victory for the Republican armies and a crushing blow to what remained of the Crown Colonies. With the 1st Colonial Army failing to turn the tide of the campaign, the last military stronghold of the Crown Colonies lay in U16. A battered army held fast, having not heard the news of their brothers in arms to the north. Tasked with blocking the path to the Capital, many of the men present were wounded or exhausted from battles prior. Regardless, they stood as vanguard against the invading forces. The Battle of U16 is widely noted as the most bitterly fought battle of the war. In their desperation, the Colonial Army found the strength not only to resist the initial attacks of the Republican forces, but also to even repel them several times. Among the ranks of the Crown forces men began to find hope-and in some even optimism-toward the battle, wondering if at last the seemingly unstoppable Grande République was stumbling. Line after line of Republican forces fell to the defending men of the Colonies, who were fighting as though against the devil himself. Outraged, the Tax Collector rallied his men and demanded that such insolence must end. Their comfort in apparently assured victory was sending them cascading toward their first defeat, which was intolerable. The officers were sent back into the fray knowing that shame and exile awaited them should they fail. This newfound perspective had a profound affect on the Battle. Volley after volley of hellfire thudded into the defending forces, cannons shredded the defences and the cavalry cut down scores of men. It were as though death itself was under the command of the Grande République, as the Colonial army was slaughtered to a man. The last remaining soldiers held a desperate defence in the square of a nearby village, but they too met their doom at the end of bayonet. The final bastion of the Colonial Army had not been routed or captured; it had been annihilated. The Tax Collector and his Grande République now stood unchallenged, with the capital of the Crown Colonies within reach. Total Victory was within their grasp. However...to the far west, the dissent within the Rossiyskiy Soyuz had come to a head. The Russian Revolution Spoiler What had began as widespread outrage at Lidor Nirok's surrender to the Grande République had blossomed into a full Revolution; the military had sided with the common rabble and now challenged Nirok's hold over the region. Nirok stood mostly alone, however his newfound friends in the Grande République assured him aid. Desperate to quell such viscous dissent, he descended upon the rebelling armies with the help of several Republican military leaders-including the mighty Tax Collector himself. The Revolutionary Army was an army comprised of military leaders, heroes of the people and common workers-however they all equalled one another in sheer willpower to fight. Tanya Pavenlova-the unofficial leader of the Revolution-lead the people against Nirok in the simple promise of a freedom of self-determination, and the end of tyranny. On the field, the armies proved evenly matched. Brothers fought brothers, families faced one another in skirmishes as the population of the Rossikyskiy Soyuz set upon itself like a rabid dog gnawing at a wound; with every earth shattering explosion of gunfire countless sons and daughters of the Union were killed. In the height of Battle, no tactical superiority could be established; a concerned Tax Collector spoke to Lidor Nirok with worry in his voice, wondering if the day may be lost. Nirok-never one to kneel to dissenters-assured him that his ability to bend the will of those in service to him had not rusted with age. It was a single bullet that ended the Revolution in many ways-and to this day it is unknown who fired it. Tanya Pavenlova suddenly dropped to the ground, blood seeping from her chest. The mere sight of this-regardless of her confirmed demise-sent the surrounding soldiers into a bloodlust which lead to the butchering of Nirok's soldiers, however some may say this was part of his plan. As the central line was disorganised and weakened by this sudden mass charge, Tax followed Nirok's lead by attacking the centre and splitting the forces in two. The Revolutionary army was scattered across the field, and the battle-worn Republican officers were soon able to begin rounding up those simply unable to face their might. As the last of the soldiers were rounded up, lashings could be heard from every corner of the battlefield. None would see the end of the day without knowing the severity of their betrayal to Lidor Nirok. The Revolution-and all that it stood for-had been stamped out beneath the combined boot of Lidor Nirok and the Grande République, who had secured the stability on their western flanks in preparation for the attack on the Colonial Capital. With the Crown Colonies now having to defend their Capital against the Grande République and the Russian Revolution crushed, the various leaders of the factions will require time to prepare for what may lead to the conclusion of the first NRP Campaign. We are taking a break from the Campaign to allow our admins some time off-and to allow the faction leaders/officers to unwind after what has been an exciting few weeks. The Campaign will be on hiatus for approximately 1 month , keep an eye out for announcements regarding its return. I'll post the updated Campaign map here once I have it! 1
